Victoria Penfield
Ceramics
Victoria is a Kona-based, Venezuela-born artist specializing in pottery, painting, and jewelry making. Her inspiration for her pride and joy pottery faces called “Karitas” came several years ago when she saw some mugs with faces that made her smile. She created her first Karitas using a slab technique. Although relatively new to the wheel her pottery instructor, Mark Hudak, told her she had the skill to make the spherical faces on the pottery wheel. Victoria was hooked when she cut the first mouth open and she heard a sigh coming out of the sphere that resulted in a smile. Victoria likes caricatures and this is expressed on her pottery pieces as whimsical creatures of many colors and shapes
